Welcome to the February/March 2024 Issue

There is so much beauty in the everyday. It’s something I often need to remind myself of as the long days of winter bleed into each other. In recent years, many have spoken of romanticizing your life. This practice involves adding a sense of beauty and intimacy to your daily routine—lighting a candle, scenting your bath, dressing up for a winter adventure or reading by the fire. Some ways I’ve embraced this practice are taking slow walks through my forested backyard and preparing homemade chai in my favorite mug each morning. I think this trend is a good reminder to seek joy and the sense of wellness that these moments imbue. And the stories within these pages may inspire you to do so in new ways.

Get away at Wilder Retreat, an idyllic property on the St. Croix River, created for reconnecting with nature and oneself. Owner Alison Wilder has created the retreat of her dreams, and now shares it with others (even their wood-fired sauna!).

Be inspired by the work and outlook of St. Croix Falls photographer Karrah Kobus. Kobus has a unique way of finding beauty in the chaos and shares about her observational approach to storytelling in the article Karrah’s Place: An Artistic Retreat.

Celebrate women as Women’s History Month approaches with stories about powerful leaders making a change. In the article Uptown Curl Supports People Experiencing Hair Loss, salon owner Kristy Wilson shares her passion for supporting women who are experiencing hair loss. And later, we connected with a group of women that are breathing life into downtown Lake Elmo.

I hope these stories lift your spirits and feed your soul.

Until next time,

–Zoe Yates
