"This Tender Land" by William Kent Krueger

“This Tender Land” by William Kent Krueger is a carefully and meticulously researched work of historical fiction.

This Tender Land by William Kent Krueger was released in September. It is the story of four orphans who run away (by way of canoe) from the cruel ways of the Lincoln Indian Training School, a reform school for Native American children. Set against the backdrop of a Great Depression era Minnesota, we follow the orphans’ physical journey as well as their spiritual journey as they each seek home and belonging. I loved the plot so much. I also loved the characters because of the way they loved and cared for each other. This work of historical fiction is carefully and meticulously researched. Kent is a great friend of Valley Bookseller and all independent book sellers. He’s also a decent and authentic human, which is easy to see in his writing. This one will never leave your “keeper shelf” friends!
