The Greater Stillwater Chamber of Commerce is looking for student artists to help create the button for 2023’s World Snow Sculpting Championship. Whether you doodle, draw, paint or draw on a tablet, share your creative spark with the community through this design contest.
The World Snow Sculpting Championship is coming to Stillwater this January for its second year. Twelve international snow sculpting teams will compete from January 18–22, 2023 to take home the title of World Snow Sculpting Champion.
“Everybody likes to have a button for this kind of event,” Stacie Jensen, communications manager for the Greater Stillwater Chamber of Commerce, says. The commemorative button will be sold by local Stillwater businesses and will be available onsite at the competition grounds. Participating businesses will also offer discounts to button wearers during the competition.
So, what exactly are the requirements?
Age: Toddlers up to students in 12th grade are eligible.
Eligibility: All artists and creatives must be a resident of Stillwater Area Public Schools boundaries.
Submissions: Each entrant can only submit one button design. All submissions must be accompanied by a submission form that includes a one to three sentence description of the entry. For more information about how to submit, and submission guidelines, visit greaterstillwaterchamber.com.
“Last year, we had close to 150 entries,” Jensen says. “It was great! It was really a hard choice to decide; everybody had their own take on it which was really cool, creative and interesting.”
The winner of the button contest will also take part in the Olympic-style opening ceremony. “They get to help ring the bell to kick off the competition,” Jensen says. “That’s when [the sculptors] literally can pick up their tools and start carving.”
