A tiny glimpse at nature’s beauty.

We regularly feature winning photos from our Lens on St. Croix Valley photo contest. This month, we asked photographer Pam Carlson of Stillwater to tell us about her photo titled “Hum” which received an honorable mention in our 2019 photo contest.

When and where was the photo taken?
In our backyard in July 2019.

What inspired the shot?
Hummingbirds amaze me and seeing this one always flying up in the oak tree.

What’s your favorite thing about the image?
Simplicity and beauty of the nest and eggs.

What tips would you give an aspiring nature photographer?
Take pictures of what you love and lots of them.
