Artist: Chris Mars
Chris Mars is known to music fans as the drummer for The Replacements, an iconic Minneapolis band that helped define American alternative rock. Yet, his decades-long career as a visual artist is equally compelling. This fall, the Phipps Center for the Arts is thrilled to present his first retrospective. Open now through November 1, the exhibition spans the full arc of Mars’ creative life: early drawings, experimental acrylics, pastel work and haunting, richly detailed oil paintings.
Also showing at the Phipps this autumn are the toy-like sculptures and mixed-media works of sculptor Jeremy Jones and stunning figurative ceramics of Kamron Legred in what promises to be a strong and interesting group of exhibitions.
