Bootleggers and Big Bands: A Speakeasy Fundraiser

Step back into the shadows and sparkle of the 1930s for an unforgettable Speakeasy Fundraiser—an evening of history, intrigue and swing. The night begins with legendary true-crime historian Paul Maccabee, author of John Dillinger Slept Here, who will share riveting stories from the mob era in St. Paul—and surprising connections to Scandia. From secret hideouts to larger-than-life characters, Maccabee brings Minnesota’s Prohibition past vividly to life.
After the stories, the floor opens up for a spirited swing dance with Riverside Unplugged. Experienced swing dancers will be on hand to teach classic moves and get everyone dancing.
Guests are encouraged to dress in their finest 1930s attire—think pinstripes, fringe, fedoras, and flapper flair—for a night inspired by the glamour of the Great Gatsby era.
Appetizers and dessert will be served, and a cash bar will feature Prohibition-era cocktails alongside wine and beer. Slip into the speakeasy, raise a glass, and dance the night away—all in support of a great cause — Raising of the Water Tower Barn.
