Since the early 1990s, Spokes and Pedals (spokesandpedals.com) in Hudson, Wisconsin, has been home to some furry and four-legged staff.
One of its current tenants is a fluffy orange rescue cat named Archie, who lives at the shop 24/7. Over the past four years, Archie has brought a welcoming energy to the bike shop, happily meeting customers at the door and catching the eyes of passersby as he sleeps in the window.
Owner Art Doyle hand-picks each shop cat using an adoption service at Angel’s Pet World. “My wife and I are good at interviewing cats to see if they’d work well in the shop,” he says. By playing with them and observing their behavior, they choose cats that will enjoy being around customers every day.
Archie has become a beloved and memorable member of the Hudson community. “He’s just a wonderful shop cat,” Doyle says. “When I’m at work, he ends up just doing what his job is, and I do my job.”
