Hudson does outdoor music right on the regular at Concerts in the Park at Lakefront Park.
It’s become a part of Stillwater’s annual Fourth of July celebration. For a couple of hours before the fireworks, the 17 musicians (and a vocalist) of the St. Croix Jazz Orchestra (SCJO) fill Pioneer Park with music—impeccably played, sonically lush, sophisticated arrangements of music by jazz greats, with room for improvised solos by some of the best musicians in the Twin Cities.
It doesn’t happen by accident. The story of how the SCJO came to be dates back to 2002.
Stillwater-based singer-songwriter-guitarist Peter Mayer is a local artist in every sense of the word. His latest self-produced album, Third Street, features a lovely wintertime shot of downtown Stillwater, and the title song is about walking down Third Street on his way to his future wife’s house.
Youth Advantage has been helping connect Stillwater-area students in need with extracurricular activities since 2010. “Our mission is to assist children from families in who live or go to school in District 834 to access arts, athletics and educational enrichment extracurricular activities to help them find and pursue their passions in life,” says Suzanne Block, founder and executive director of the nonprofit organization.
