DESCRIPTION:Discover what thousands of schoolchildren already know! Belwin’s Education Site welcomes thousands of students from Saint Paul and Stillwater every year. This June\, you’re invited to explore this special site during two days of open community hiking. Kick off your visit at our new Peter J. King Family Foundation Wetlands Center\, then head out on the trail. Naturalist guided hikes will be available throughout the day starting at 10 a.m.\, or choose your own adventure as you explore miles of trail through woodlands\, wetlands and prairie. \nOpen to everyone. Trails at the Education Site are accessible to hikers of all ages and include a mix of paved\, mowed grass and gravel. This event is free\, but we ask that you RSVP to help us plan for parking and staffing.

Wear comfortable layers and be prepared for any weather.  Open to women over the age of 16. \nCost: $20\, $35\, or $50. Our sliding scale fee allows you to choose a payment that feels affordable to you. You bring lunch\, water and $10 cash per person for the shuttle service to the upper landing. \nWe will start and end at the main park boat landing. DESCRIPTION:Mark your calendars for a day of nature walks\, speakers\, live music and service projects. The 2024 EarthFest theme is “Why do we care about prairies?” and will highlight the almost 500 acres of restored prairie at Wild River State Park. \nApril 27\, 2024 is a free entrance day and the 41st annual celebration of spring at the park! All ages are welcome\, but this event is geared toward ages 8 and up. Pick and choose from activities or come to them all. Final activity locations will be posted here and at the park the day before the event. \n7:30-9 a.m. Bird Walk (Meet at Boat Launch Parking Lot) – Join Joe on a journey through a variety of habitats in search of our feathered friends. Compare prairie\, wetland and forest birds. Bring binoculars or borrow a pair of ours. \n9:30-10:30 a.m. Prairie Walk: What’s happening in our grasslands? – Take a stroll through some of Wild River’s 500 acres of prairie with Park Naturalist Sean Hoppes and Native Cultural Teacher Hope Flanagan. This walk will be an open discussion on prairie ecology and stewardship. \n10:45-11:30 a.m. Keynote Presentation – Hope Flanagan is the native cultural teacher at Dream of Wild Health. She is from the Tonawanda Band of Seneca and has a strong cultural relationship with plants. She teaches people about the importance of culture\, language and identity\, and shares her knowledge of Indigenous foods and medicines. \nNoon-1:30 p.m. Lunchtime Concert with AJ Spoff – AJ frequently entertains with a variety of country\, rock\, pop and original music. Bring your lunch and enjoy! \n1:30-3:30 p.m. Connect with Local Conservation Groups – Drop by for informal chats with an array of conservation organizations. \n2-2:30 p.m. The Bullsnake Program – Dave Crawford loves to talk about snakes. This former park naturalist will present what we’ve learned at Wild River from studying bullsnakes for the past 20 years. \n2:30-3 p.m. Bluebirds on the Prairie – Gloria Peterson has been monitoring bluebird activities at Wild River for years. She will share engaging stories and beautiful pictures of bluebirds. \n3-5 p.m. Prairie Stewardship Projects – Discover your own connection to the prairie and give something back through stewardship projects. There are several options for various ages and abilities. \nThis event is sponsored by the Friends of Wild River State Park.

Wrap your head around what an eclipse really is as you ponder the wonders of the universe. \nThe eclipse starts at 12:50 p.m. and ends at 3:14 p.m. The maximum eclipse (about 80%) occurs at 2:03 p.m. Drop by this station at the Trail Center anytime between 1-3 p.m. Hope for no clouds!

We will gather together indoors to share easy\, yogic centering exercises and a brief conversation about our theme. We will then move out to the woods and prairies for walking meditations and experiences in the natural world. DESCRIPTION:From 5-7 p.m. on February 3\, Belwin Conservancy will host Midwinter Family Fun. This night of free outdoor activities features hikes through the snow guided by Belwin naturalists\, stargazing with Minnesota Astronomical Society and s’mores around several campfires. The event is free and will take place at the Hilltop Classroom at the Education Site. \nDon’t miss this chance to go stargazing with one of the biggest refractive telescopes in the state! The Joseph J. Casby Observatory will be open and volunteers from the Minnesota Astronomical Society will be there to help you see the stars. If you get cold\, warm drinks will be available indoors. \nGuided hikes will be available all evening. For families with young children\, you can join Parent\, Child\, and Family Educator\, Jenny Hanlon from Stillwater ECFE at 5:45 p.m. for a short hike\, exploration and songs specifically geared toward families with children 5 and under. Feel free to bring a sled or carrier for your child if they are likely to get tired from walking. We look forward to seeing you for a fun night out in nature. \nNo dogs allowed at this event.

DESCRIPTION:Join us on December 20 for a celebration of the year’s longest night. The evening will feature a roaring bonfire and live music\, beginning with a performance from Imniza Ska Dakota Drum Group\, and followed by stories and songs of Nordic Solstice performed by Kari Tauring and Carol Sersland. Cookies and hot cider will be available in a warming tent. \nWant to explore the snowy landscape? Guided night hikes led by Lynette Anderson and Jim Rue for all ages will be available every half hour beginning at 6:15 p.m. Also at 6:15 p.m.\, Jenny Hanlon\, of Stillwater Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE)\, will be leading a short hike and songs specifically geared towards families with children 5 and under.
