But when the wizard Gandalf arrives at his door\, the Hobbit is swept into a magical adventure filled with unexpected friendships\, daring quests and unforgettable encounters. \nThe show runs from July 23–26 and July 30–August 2. Evening showtimes are at 7 p.m. on July 23\, 24\, 25\, 30\, 31 and August 1; and 2 p.m. matinee performances are available July 26 and August 2. Learn about the pre-settlement geography: the population centers\, territorial boundaries\, seasonal locations\, and travel routes\, and hear about the European-American cartographers who put this place on the map. Greg will also talk about digital map data and how he uses it to inform his work. (Take home several maps illustrating these concepts.)

There are also many contemporary authors\, poets\, advocates\, historians and journalists who write about the river. Learn about these writers and hear some favorite excerpts. DESCRIPTION:Friends of Wild River State Park will hold its pancake breakfast and annual meeting from 9–11 a.m. on March 14 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Almelund. The free event is open to everyone. \nThe morning will kick off at 9 a.m. with breakfast\, consisting of “famous secret” made-from-scratch buttermilk pancakes\, served with homemade maple syrup tapped from Wild River State Park’s sugar bush\, accompanied by fresh sausage\, coffee and juice. \nFollowing breakfast\, the annual meeting will include a review of the Friends’ 2025 programs and initiatives\, a look ahead to plans for the rest of 2026\, reports from the group’s board and park staff and presentation of the annual Wild Friend award. In addition\, local historian Lin Strong will give a brief talk on Wild River State Park’s Nevers Dam\, which was removed in 1954. \nCurrent Friends members may renew their annual membership at the event\, and non-members will be given the opportunity to become members\, although it is not required for attending the event. \nThe church is located at 37515 Park Trail in Almelund. Attendees should enter the building via the side door off Maple Lane.

DESCRIPTION:Six miles of winter trails will be illuminated by candles to guide you through an annual winter tradition at Wild River. This year the event is on Valentine’s Day. Skiers\, walkers and snowshoers are welcome to take to the trails. Please use event map to find the correct trail for your activity. Maps are available at the event. \nThe trail center and visitor center are good places to warm up. Marvel at an enormous bonfire and participate in activities throughout the park. There are no ski or snowshoe rentals. Trail Center area: event maps\, woodstoves\, refreshments\, walk to the enormous bonfire\, telescope. Visitor Center area: event maps\, live music\, woodstove\, biochar kiln demonstration\, refreshments. \nCanceled if windchill is below -15 F. Snowshoeing is welcome but not necessary. If there is very low or no snow\, we will use battery candles for a walking trail. \nEvent and activities are free\, but vehicles must display a $7 one-day or $35 year-round MN State Parks Vehicle Permit. Skiers (16 and older) need a $10 one-day or $25 one-year ski pass\, which is valid at 90 MN destinations. \nPermits available at the ranger station\, but save time at this busy event and buy one online ahead of time
