While architectural elements and furniture are often the go-to focal points, a single wall can hold its own with bold color or statement wallpaper.

Any home décor dossier worth its weight in creativity should feature at least one chapter on the art of creating a room’s focal point—a place for one’s visual appraisal to rest if only for a moment before moving along to complementary accoutrements.

While architectural elements and furniture are often the go-to focal points, a single wall can hold its own with bold color or statement wallpaper. Consider taking wallpaper’s point of impact to the next level with mural paper. Make a statement without the commitment of papering an entire room.

Welcome in the world’s land, sea and sky and a whole lot more. Mural options run from cityscapes to landscapes; architectural elements to over-sized florals; graphic patterns to spa-inspired vistas and more. Trends this year are angling toward 3D patterns, watercolor art, geometric shapes, art deco and bohemian vibes. Animal prints continue their design prowl as do floral blooms—the bigger the better.

If you want to be on trend, go for it. But consider making it personal. Choose a mural paper inspired by a treasured journey, lifelong hobby or dream. A family photograph (current or one from days gone by) can be transformed into mural wallpaper, as can children’s artwork and early printing.

Speaking of children, using a single wall mural paper is ideal in terms of personalization and practicality. Young ones might delight in a jaunty circus, classic fairytales, friendly forests or all things sports related, but their tastes grow almost as quickly as their shoe sizes. Changing out a single wall of mural paper (some are peel and stick for quick removal) is infinitely easier than transforming an entire room when a child graduates to another hobby or interest.
